Republication of the classical book (Jerusalem, 1928), which is considered unique for the history of the Holly land and the Greek institutes that are located there. Kallistos Miliaras, known as Konstantinos Papaemanuil Milliaras (1866-1951), was born in Crete and at the age of 15 he settled to Jerusalem, where he studied in the School of Theology of Timios Stavros (i.e., the Rood) and was appointed as the librarian of the central library of the Jerusalem Patriarchate. In 1889 he was nominated monk, he was renamed as Kallistos and in 1890 he was ordained a deacon. In the same year he was sent to Moscowin order to perfect his studies and there he was ordained a presbyter. Between the years 1900 – 1902 he was appointed in Constantinople as the assistant to the warden of the ZionicChurch. In 1902 he returned to Jerusalem, where he served at the Patriarchate until the end of his life. From 1922 to his death he was the head of “Nea Zion”.
